The Supreme Court will today continue its hearing on the Triple Talaq case. Attorney General (AG) Mukul Rohatgi would argue the matter before the court. The Centre told the apex court that it opposes the triple talaq practice and wants to fight for women equality and gender justice. However, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) counsel Kapil Sibal told the apex court that triple talaq is a matter that comes under the Muslim board and therefore, in his opinion, the top court should not interfere in it.

Lets talk about racism | Our ads preach we will have better jobs, marriages if we are fairer, says Abhay Deol

My first exposure to racism came from my own country. I grew up believing fairer is better. The voices of ‘fairer is lovelier’ were all around me. People would pinch my cheeks and say, “kina gora heh” (he’s so fair), and proceed to say, “soni kudi milegi” (he’ll get a beautiful girl)… It was only when I left to study abroad at the age of 18 that I began to question the notion of beauty being linked to colour of skin. I had friends of all colours and skin tone came into our conversations only when we discussed the rights of different communities.
